Explore the New Market battlefield and its historic farm where young college students of the VMI Cadet Corps were called to march 80 miles in four days and win a victory for the Confederate Army. Enjoy the museum, scenic Shenandoah River overlooks, picnic spots and walking trails. The site is 20 miles north of Mountain Valley on Exit 264 on I-81.

Port Republic and Cross Keys

Find out about the Battle of Port Republic and Cross Keys at the Hardesty-Higgins House visitor center in the Valley Turnpike Museum. Driving and walking tours are available to witness the victory of the first Valley campaign, which enabled Jackson’s army to leave the Valley in Richmond’s defense. This site is 15 miles south of Mountain Valley.
